Baltic Sea Cruise - from Bremerhaven - 112019

Bremerhaven, an administrative district in its own right in the federal state of Bremen, lies to the North of Bremen, on the lower Weser. Founded in 1827, the first regular connection between America and Europe set out from Bremerhaven in 1847. In 1938, Bremerhaven was amalgamated with the town of Wesermünde. In 1947, Wesermünde was re-named Bremerhaven, forming the federal state of Bremen. Sights include: the Atlanticum, the German Shipping Museum, the Historical Museum, the Kunsthalle Bremerhaven, the harbour museum, the museum ships the "Wal", the "Gera" and "Goliath", the fishing harbour, the "Wilhelm Bauer" submarine and the zoo.

The Kiel Canal used also to be known as the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal and is the busiest sea waterway in the world today. It is considered to be the main trading route in Northern Europe. It connects Scandinavia and the Baltic States to world trade, acting as the gateway to the Baltic Sea. Day and night, more than 37,000 ships a year pass through the canal. The most important port along the canal is Rendsburg. One of the attractions of the Kiel Canal is the railway bridge and the transporter bridge suspended below it in Rendsburg.

The Latvian capital of Riga has been restored to its former glory. Its old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Old merchants' houses, the National Opera and splendid Art Nouveau buildings have been renovated and restored and now adorn the broad avenues and boulevards. The symbol of Latvian freedom and the town's landmark is the statue "Milda", which sits enthroned on a magnificent obelisk. Latvian specialities are on offer in the five lively market halls. At night, the old town, which is a car-free zone, reverberates with life. Wide white beaches are also a part of Riga's city area. Stockholm with its fantastic location at the mouth of the Mälaren at the Baltic Sea is a mixture of illustrious beauty and regal splendour, a vibrant modern city with a historical charm. Copenhagen is not only the capital of Denmark, but also the most multifaceted city in Scandinavia. Kiel is the regional capital of Schleswig-Holstein.
