The category

Inside cabin:
This is the most inexpensive cabin category. The rooms are without windows or bull’s eyes and on some ships have only a window to the hallway. An inside cabin is for guests who use the cabin only for sleeping and who would like to save cost in order to spend more on going on shore and extras on board.

Outside cabin:
Outside cabins are equipped with a window or bull’s eye and a view of the water. On ocean ships the window cannot be opened, unlike on river ships. Sight obstructions such as life boats in front of the window are possible – if applicable ask when booking..

Balcony cabin:
These cabins have their own cabin, the size of which may vary. Since the door can be opened, you can enjoy fresh air on your own balcony. In addition to this the balcony offers a refuge if one wants to enjoy one’s time without disturbances.

Suite:
The suite is the highest and most luxurious cabin category and varies in size up to the size of an apartment. There is a living area and, on some ships, a dining and dressing area. One also finds a private balcony or terrace. To top off pure luxury some ships offer a personal butler who fulfills one’s every wish.

Furthermore there are family suites, comprising 2 bedrooms, 2 baths for up to 8 persons and a mini suite, ranging in category between cabin and suite and which is not quite as large and expensive as the suite but has a balcony and a bath tub.

In addition to this there is a general distinction between a double cabin with an upper and a lower bed and a two-bed cabin with two lower beds which do not necessarily stand next to each other. For families it is convenient to book two cabins with a connecting door.

The location:

Noise:
Cabins located close to the lounges such as reception, disco, restaurant and fitness center tend to be noisier. Outside cabins may be disturbed by the noise from the anchor chain, lower cabins at the stern by vibrations from the engines.

Seasickness:
Passengers who get seasick easily should avoid cabins near bow or stern. A middle deck at the center of the ship is ideal, since the center of the ship is less exposed to movement.

Prices:
The rule of thumb is – the higher the deck and cabin category, the more expensive the cabins.
