Puerto Baquerizo is the capital of the Ecuadorian Galapogos Islands, famous for the rare giant tortoises found there. The attractions in this town on the island of San Cristóbal include a small museum run by Franciscan monks and the Darwin Monument. The mouth of the harbour of this little town with a population of 3,000 is dominated by the rock Leon Dormido, meaning "sleeping lion". From here you can enjoy a wonderful view of the entire island and watch frigate birds and large colonies of sea lions.
