Ua Pou is one of the Marquesa Islands with towering sugar-loaf shaped basalt pillars. It has a stunning silhouette with mountain peaks standing more than 1,200 m high. The main town of Hakahau in the North West of the island is its most important port. The museum has an excellent collection of archaeological finds. The exhibition about the various types of basalt, for which Ua Pou is famous throughout the archipelago, is particularly interesting. The carvings in St. Stephen's church are also worth a look.
