Dubai (United Arab Emirates)
Departure: 19:00
19:00
The Arabian metropolis of Dubai has a population of 674,000 - 97% of the population of the United Arab Emirates. The city is the economic centre of the union, since it has the only natural harbour at the Persian Gulf. The city is also known for its oil wells. Over the last few years, Dubai has become increasingly popular among tourists since it successfully marries the atmosphere of 'Arabian Nights' with modernity and abstract architecture. Now the historically important buildings and areas of the city are being rebuilt and the trader's district of "Bastaktia" has already been completely restored. Dubai - a city of contrasts. In addition to the traditional places of pilgrimage, this westernised city is home to the only 7-star hotel in the world, "Burj al Arab". It is the tallest, most expensive and most exclusive luxury hotel on the planet and even its immense size and breathtaking architecture are sure to impress. Due to the city's affluence there is almost no crime here. The bustling international port is also a top-class shopping destination. Holidaymakers who enjoy sports will love the excellent sports and recreational facilities in Dubai. The golf courses, watersports facilities, sunbathing on the seemingly endless (and almost deserted!) sandy beaches and desert safaris are the most popular pasttimes.
Other attractions in Dubai include: Jumeirah Mosque, the World Trade Center, the royal palaces, Dubai Museum, "Goldsouk" and the spice market.

A jewel on the East-African coast is the harbour town of Mombasa, which was built on an island of coral. The splendour of its colourful, cosmopolitan past is apparent in many of the buildings still standing today. The old town has been preserved largely as it was built in the 19th century. Its narrow streets are lined with Arabic houses, many of which have traditional carved doors with brass inlays. In addition to the mosques, there are also a large number of spice and coffee traders in the town.
Sights include: Fort Jesus at the southern end of the old town, the old town itself, the mosques and the harbour.

A multitude of cultural influences have shaped the face of this East African port, which is still seen as the unofficial capital of Tanzania. Even more than other areas in Africa, Tanzania has absorbed various cultural and religious influences over the centuries: churches, moques and Hindu temples can all be seen in the city of Dar-es-Salaam. The style of the many old buildings in the city centre, as well as the Askari monument are a reminder of colonial rule. In the shade of the trees along the waterside promenade, farmers from the surrounding countryside of Dar and Kigamboni (a fertile peninsula by the port) sell potatoes, onions, oranges and papaya, all polished and lovingly stacked in pyramid shapes. Sights include: the National Museum, the Botanic Gardens, the Village Museum and Kariakoo Market.
Port Louis, the capital of the African island paradise of Mauritius lies on the West coast of the island, nestled between the Moka mountains and the Indian Ocean. The city is an invigorating mix of city bustle, the grand elegance of a bygone age and multicultural cooperation. Popular destinations in the town centre include the wide luxury street with its King palms and the market with its iron market halls. If you want to buy something here, you have to be prepared to barter. In the town centre close to the port a number of colonial buildings add a touch of palatial pizazz. The best view of the city is to be had from Fort Adelaide, which dates from the British era and sits enthroned in the centre of the city atop a small hill.
The island of Mauritius itself is of volcanic origin which is why it is lined by mountain ranges. Huge sugar-cane plantations and paradise beaches are what the island is famous for.
