It is the first sheep of the fleet which cruises with hybrid propulsion, the company´s contribution to make voyages environmentally friendlier and reduce the ecological footprint in the destinations. Nature as a main focus of the expedition voyages

Voyages with Roald Amundsen will bring you to some of the most secluded places on earth, locations that also Norwegian polar researcher Roald Amundsen, eponym of the ship, has visited during his expeditions. HX Expeditions offers you an experience, where nature is put in focus. Instead of a show program, Hurtigruten provides informatory speeches in English language about the visited destinations, their flora and fauna as well as their history. Moreover, there is a special program of workshops in which you can learn new things such as the right photography techniques for nature shots. In order to perform those speeches, workshops and land excursions, an expedition team joins you aboard and lets you benefit from their extensive expertise.

Comfort inside the cabins and in all public areas

Nonetheless, you won´t have to renounce comfort aboard Roald Amundsen. The modern ship is full of comfortable cabins with either a window on the lower decks or a balcony on the upper decks. In category MC suites there even is an additional outdoor whirlpool to relax in and enjoy the passing landscape. You can enjoy the same kind of beautiful view from the sauna on deck 7 or use the fitness area, another sauna on deck 10 or a pool and whirlpool in the outside area. Another way to relax is to read a captivating book from the on-board library or to sit back inside the Panorama Salon whose giant windows offer another breathtaking view of the scenery rolling by. To better observe mother nature in all of its beauty, you can also rent or buy binoculars to use on the outside decks in the front or rear of the vessel. Furthermore, there is a fee-based WIFI access in order to stay in touch with the outside world. All announcements are made in English, French and German. The atmosphere aboard is informal and the dress code during dinner is casual. Due to the called destinations, appropriate clothing for the land excursions is recommended.

Fine Cuisine aboard the expedition ship

Spoil yourself in one of the three onboard restaurants T.Aune, Fredheim or Lindstrom. In the main restaurant you will be served breakfast, lunch with free seating as well as dinner with fixed seating order. Dinner can be served as buffet, menu or sometimes barbecue.
