1.
Montreal (Québec, Canada)
Montreal is the second-largest city in Canada - a lively metropolis with an 80% French-speaking population. Visitors can take a guided tour of the attractive Olympic Park, the home to the Olympic Games in 1976. The area around the Rue Crescent is famous for its many jazz cafés and restaurants.
Sights include: the "Place des Arts", where the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and several theatres are located; the historic harbour area "Vieux Montreal"; the former residence of the French governor "Place Jacques Cartier"; Chateau Ramzay; the oldest church in the city "Notre Dame de Bonsecour".
2.
Québec (Québec, Canada)
The capital of the French-speaking province of the same name enchants visitors with its French charm, which has shaped the city's image. Its landmark, the famous Hotel Chateau Frontenac, opened in 1892 as a luxury hotel with around 500 rooms, overlooks old stone houses, winding streets and a well-preserved city wall dating from the 19th. A stroll around the hotel's terrace provides a breathtaking view of the St. Laurence river and the well-preseved old town. The citadel, huge fortifications built around the city in a star shape, features tourist attractions in the form of the daily changing of the guard in summer and a military museum.
Sights include: wax works, the Musée du Fort, the Anglican cathedral, the old harbour and the Musée de la Civilisation.

4.
Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island, Canada)
With a population of 15,500, Charlottetown is the only large town on Prince Edward Island. The provincial capital's main sights include Province House, built entirely from sandstone in the 18th century. It is here that the negotiations were held in 1864 that led to the establishment of the Canadian Confederation. The small town centre radiates an endearing and nostalgic feel. All of the houses have been restored. In addition to the traditional brick buildings, there are also traditional terraced houses painted in bold, bright colours. The cultural centre of the island is also in Charlottetown: every year there is a huge festival at which, among other things, Canadian musical productions are staged.
5.
Pictou (Nova Scotia, Canada)
6.
Halifax (Nova Scotia, Canada)
Halifax is not only the capital of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia but also has one of the largest ports in the world. The city not far from Montreal is known for its many galleries and museums; it also hosts a great many cultural and musical events. Behind the harbour lies the picturesque coastal landscape. There are several historic buildings that house small shops, restaurants and the Museum of Natural History, which has an exhibition about the Titanic. Other sights include: "Citadel Hill", the parliament, "Spring Garden Road Region", the public gardens and Point Pleasant Park.
7.
Lunenburg (Nova Scotia, Canada)
The town of Lunenburg lies on the Canadian peninsula of Nova Scotia ('New Scotland'). It was once inhabited by German settlers, which is why German was spoken here until around the 1930s. The town has several unique features: the history of the settlement, its old architecture and the shipbuilding tradition. The town of Lunenburg has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site on account of its old architecture.
Sights include: the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, which documents the history of coastal and sea fishing, the technology of ship building, the origins of the fishing industry and the day-to-day living conditions of fishermen.
The cosy little town of Bar Harbor in Maine, New England, lies to the East of Mount Desert Island - the third-largest island on the West-Atlantic coast. The port used to be a resort for millionaires. In the 19th century, Bar Harbour with its Victorian mansions was the summer residence of New England's high society.
Today, the town is part of one of the most-visited American National Parks, picturesque "Acadia National Park". The Park encompasses the majority of Mount Desert Island and has trails for cycling, walking and riding measuring a total of 273 km in length. The many cliffs and the beautiful coastal landscapes provide visitors with an intense and unforgettable experience of nature.
9.
Provincetown (Cape Cod, USA)
It was at the most northerly point of the Cape Cod peninsula that the pilgrim fathers first set foot on the New World. The former fishing town of Provincetown is the jewel in the tourism crown of Cape Cod, a cosy little town with a great deal of charm and a popular destination for holidaymakers and artists. The artistic tradition dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, with authors including Nobel prize winner, Eugene O’Neill (1888–1953).
On a hill above the town the granite monument, designed in the Italian renaissance style, stands 77 metres high and, together with the Provincetown Museum commemorates the arrival of the early pilgrims. On clear days, the view from the viewing platform, which can only be reached on foot, stretches far across the Cape Cod Bay.
10.
Oak Bluffs (Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, USA)
New York - the huge, vibrant city by the Hudson River and the unofficial capital of the world - is without a doubt one of the most fascinating cities in the USA. Around 12 million residents from all over the world call New York home. The city is divided into five districts, Manhattan being the heart of the city and the most famous district. Probably just about anyone coming to New York thinks first of Wall Street, Broadway, the Empire State Building, Fifth Avenue and the many museums, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty. All of this can be found in New York City, indeed in the "small" district of Manhattan. "The Big Apple", as the city is also known, is a melting pot of cultures and nationalities, from rich to poor - the ultimate city of contrasts. The subject of many songs, and yet more literature, New York is in a constant state of flux. It is a centre for the economy, the arts and architecture that each of the 25 million visitors annually will experience differently, but which captures the imagination of every single one of them.
