With a population in excess of 1 million, Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand. It lies between the Pacific Ocean and the Tasmanian See. It got its nickname the "City of Sails" on account of the "thousand ships" moored in its harbour. The city spans an 11 km wide sound of volcanic rocks and is a paradise for watersports fans. To the North of Auckland, Leigh Marine Reserve provides plenty of opportunity for every imaginable kind of underwater activity.
The main cultural attraction is the Auckland Museum.

Bay of Islands (New Zealand)
The "Bay of Islands" is one of the most beautiful areas in New Zealand and fascinates visitors with around 144 islands abundant with flora and fauna.
The main attraction is Cape Brett with the huge natural arch, the "Hole in the Rock". This is a huge rock fragment in the sea with a whole in it so large that, when the sea is calm, ferries can sail through it.
From the main town in the bay, Paihia, you can take a boat trip to the islands in the bay or to the northern tip of New Zealand. Other places in the bay worth visiting are: Waitangi with its Maori meeting house, Kerikeri with "Mission Kemp House", the whaling station "Russell" with the oldest preserved church on New Zealand and Kawakawamit with the Waiomio Caves and the Maori fort "Ruapekapeka Pa".

Île des Pins (New Caledonia)
White sandy beaches, turquoise-blue lagoons and rainforests are what makes this beautiful island so special (70 km South East of Grande Terre) . Remnants of a 4,000-year-old settlement were discovered here. In the 19th century it served as a prison colony; today, all that remains of the prison is the ruins. Daytrips from Nouméa to Vao, the largest city on Ile des Pins, are hugely popular among tourists.

Jayapura (West-Papua, Indonesia)
Jayapura is the capital city of the province of Irian Jaya in Indonesia and also the largest city in the region. Quaint and pleasant are probably the best adjectives to describe Irian Jaya. The Museum Jayapura, located on campus at Cenderawasih University and with exhibits including some interesting anthropological artefacts, is worth a visit. Tanjung Ria beach – formerly known among allied forces as 'Base G' – is now a popular holiday resort with a large number of watersports facilities.

Komodo (Indonesia)
Komodo is one of the Lesser Sunda lslands, a part of Indonesia as yet almost untouched by tourism. It could have been the set for the film "Jurassic Park", with its prehistoric animals the Komodo dragons and its unique landscape of craggy mountains, grasslands and forests with dried-up riverbeds. There are no roads and only a single village. Not far from Komodo are some of the most beautiful islands with a huge diversity of plant and animal life and fantastic areas for snorkelling in untouched coral colonies.
