The old town centre, featuring mainly wooden houses built in that Victorian gingerbread-house style, is well worth a visit. In the small streets around the Parque Central with a nostalgic glorieta pavillion there are lots of little shops, restaurants and cafés. The sights include San Felipe fort, built in the 16th century as protection against the many pirate attacks. Just next to it is the harbour, where stranded ships are a reminder of the hurricanes that have ravaged the coast.

Key West is the most southerly town in Florida on the main island of Florida Keys. It is a very tourist-oriented town that enchants visitors with its sub-tropical serenity, laid-back lifestyle and Caribbean flair. In the late 19th century the residents of the town made a living from the cigar industry, sponge diving and hunting sea turtles. Tourism began to flourish with the expansion of the railway lines in 1912. The town's most famous resident was Ernest Hemmingway, who lived in Key West during the 1930s and 40s. Duval Street in the old town, a colourful mix of small shops, bars and restaurants, is a must-see. Key West also has many museums such as Key West Aquarium. One of the most famous attractions is watching the sun go down at Mallory Square Docks: tourists, locals, street performers and street traders gather on the beach and the promenade to experience the sunset. King's Wharf (Ireland Island, Bermuda) - Picture 1
King's Wharf, also known as Royal Naval Dockyard, is on Ireland Island in the most westerly of the nine parishes of Bermuda, Sandys Parish. The port facilities were run by the British for many years as the "Gibraltar of the West". It served as a dockyard and supply station for ships travelling between the West Indies in the Caribbean and Nova Scotia. The fort built between 1814 and 1863 served as a base during both World Wars and was abandoned in 1951. Later, the buildings were given a new lease of life: today they house, among other things, a maritime museum, a cinema, a DIY store and "Bermuda Snorkelling Park". The beautiful beaches of Somerset Long Bay are just a short distance away. The dock is now also a port of call for cruise ships. Other ports in the Bermudas include St. George and Hamilton.
