Buenos Aires is the capital of the Republic of Argentina and was founded in 1536 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Mendoza. The Latin American city, also known as the "Queen of La Plata" has a very European feel, both in terms of architecture and local customs, spiced with a dash of Latin American warmth and informality. A megalopolis with eleven million inhabitants (making it one of the largest cities in the world) Buenos Aires has always had great allure. Incomers see it as the gateway to the New World, the city of tango, football, a vibrant cultural life and elegance in South America.

Tips for excursions

Tango show in the Casa Blanca

More modern versions of the tango as well as the traditional form of the dance are on show in this evening presentation: for example, you get the tango crossed over with classical music. A fantastic evening in the company of an orchestra, and large numbers of singers and tango dancers.

Tour of Buenos Aires

The tour begins in the wealthy northern districts with their luxurious buildings that are home to numerous elegant restaurants, pastry shops, bars and classy shops, before going on to the "Palermo Chico" quarter, passing embassies, consulates and museums. This district is also home to the "Jardines de Palermo" (Gardens of Palermo) with one of the city's top attractions: the 34,000m² "El Rosedal". Highlights of the park include the Botanical Garden, the planetarium, the zoo, the Argentine horseracing track, the "Carta Magna" memorial and the municipal golf complex. The Tour goes on to the area around the "Plaza de Mayo", home to the historic town hall, the "Mayo" pyramid, the cathedral and the Argentine National Bank building. There follows a look at the "Teatro Colón" (Columbus Theatre), followed by a short walk through "San Telmo", with an introduction to the history of this district. Onwards then to "La Boca": this district, whose rich and interesting past is known well beyond the borders of Argentina, was home to Buenos Aires' first port. There will be free time for shopping at the end of the tour.

Tigre and Parana Delta

On the way to Tigre a trip through the delta of the Rio Parana, a network of islands and small rivers. This tour includes a boat trip through various of the delta's channels and a trip to "Tren De La Costa". Rivers and streams of various sizes will be crossed. The trip takes you past various islands, which are embedded between the water courses, along with willow woods and fields of rushes. Hortensias and other blooming shrubs are to be seen in the gardens of luxurious villas and in those of simple wooden huts alike, leaving the viewer with an unforgettably beautiful image of this area.
