The port of Arica

Cruises from Arica

131 Customer evaluations: 3.9 / 5 3 von fünf und mehr Sterne Bewertungen
The most northerly town in Chile is located by the sea and serves as the starting point for tours of the Andes uplands to Putre and the National Parks "Las Vicuñas" and "Lauca" and to the sites of ancient Incan settlements. In 1883, following the "Salpeter war" (1879-1883), the city was ceded by Bolivia to Chile, causing Bolivia to lose its access to the Pacific.

Tips for excursions

Tour of Arica

A visit to the San Miguel Folk Museum, where artefacts from the pre-Columbian age (ca. 5000 B.C.) are on show, along with mummies and pottery. The trip continues to the Gothic church dating from 1876. Visit to the National Museum, which offers an insight into the history of the country and the Pacific war between Peru and Chile.

Lauca National Park

The unique natural history of South America. Along the Taipicahue river to Bolivia. Crossing the Lauca river with a brief break at a police station. Then on to the Catacotani Lagoon. This green lagoon was originally created by volcanic activity. Also to be found there is Lake Chungara, said to be the world's highest lake. It lies at an altitude of 14,700 ft above sea level. Return in the late afternoon with a stop-off in Putre.
