Macapa is the capital of Amapa and lies on the northern shore of the Amazon estuary on the equator. The port is a popular place for people to have their photograph taken in front of the zero-line, "Marco Zero". Macapa is home to around three quarters of the 289,000-strong population of Amapas. Sights include: "Fortaleza de São José", a fort dating from the 18th century and built by the Portuguese.

Sightseeing tour

This tour offers the most important tourist attractions. First port of call is the artisans' quarter "Pontal do Barra" in the city centre. The centre is home to the cathedral "N. S. dos Prazeres" and the palace of the judicature. There will then be an opportunity to take photographs and to enjoy a beautiful view. The route then leads down the coastal road with views of Maceiò's most beautiful beaches: "Cruz das Almas", "Jatiuca", "Ponta Verde", "Pajucara", "Avenida" and "Sobrai".

South coast and beaches

The excursion begins with a coach trip across the island between the "Mundau" und "Manguaba" lagoons, heading south to the island of "Barra di Sao Miguel", where there is free time for sunbathing, swimming and going for walks. The trip then continues to the "Do Frances" beach, which offers a range of underwater sport activities. The idyllic natural lagoon basin of the beach can also be admired on foot.

The excursion begins with a journey via Maceió to "Pontal da Barra". At this location, where the country's biggest lagoons, "Mundaù" and "Manguaba", flow into one another, there is an opportunity to sunbathe.
