Madang is the capital of the province of the same name and is considered to be one of the best natural harbours in Papua New Guinea. The harbour is also known as the "Pearl of the South Pacific". In the nearby towns of Yabobs and Bilbils visitors can enjoy watching the traditional potters at work. The harbour is also extremely interesting for divers, since it provides many excellent diving opportunities. Madang is also the starting point for boats sailing to many of the remote outer islands and reefs in the region.
