Mehamn is the centre of the municipality of Gamvikmit and has a population of around 1,000. The area has a varied landscape and many lakes and rivers, which are perfect for fishing. Accordingly, fishing and fish processing are the main pillars of the local economy and also represent an important export sector in Norway. Mehamn has its own airfield, connecting it with Norway.
